Khloé Kardashian Recalls Weight Shaming at Barry's Bootcamp
Khloé Kardashian recently revisited a past experience with Barry Jay, co-founder of Barry's Bootcamp, during the season premiere of "The Kardashians." The incident, which occurred years ago, involved a remark about her weight during a workout session.
While en route to Kourtney Kardashian's event at the Studio City Barry's Bootcamp location, Khloé recounted the story to her sister. She remembered pausing during a run, at which point Jay allegedly made a comment about her weight being the reason for her break.
In a solo interview segment, Khloé elaborated on the encounter. She explained that she was struggling with the workout and took a moment to rest. Jay's alleged response struck her as an unusual way to motivate someone.
Khloé acknowledged that attitudes were different at the time, referencing the prevalence of weight-loss focused media like "Biggest Loser" and the popularity of diet pills. She noted that body shaming was more accepted in that era, specifically mentioning that the incident took place around 2006. She also stated that she and Jay have not spoken since that singular exchange.
Barry's Bootcamp has been a favored workout spot for the Kardashian family for years. The fitness studio even made appearances in the "Kourtney And Kim Take New York" spinoff series between 2011 and 2012.
Representatives for Barry's Bootcamp have been contacted for comment.
Khloé, now 41, has been open about her fitness journey, previously telling Bustle in 2024 that her divorce from Lamar Odom was a catalyst for her initial focus on exercise. She explained that after a breach of privacy involving her therapy sessions, she turned to the gym as a healthier outlet.
She also addressed speculation about her body transformation being the result of surgery or weight-loss medications. Khloé emphasized her commitment to fitness over the past decade and dismissed claims that her results were achieved through shortcuts.
While she acknowledged the current trend of weight-loss aids, like Ozempic, Khloé expressed a non-judgmental stance, stating that people should prioritize their own well-being. She admitted with humor that she wouldn't have minded having access to such options years ago.
