Kelly Clarkson Returns to TV After Former Spouse's Death

Kelly Clarkson is preparing to return to television after the passing of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.

New episodes of "The Kelly Clarkson Show" are set to premiere on Monday, September 29, according to an announcement by NBCUniversal. Filming for the upcoming seventh season, which has moved to New York City, will begin during the week of September 8.

The new season will feature an array of celebrity appearances, with guests such as Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Sylvester Stallone, Matthew McConaughey, and Dwayne Johnson. The first week of episodes will pay tribute to those who showed bravery during the recent severe flooding in Texas Hill Country.

In addition to her talk show, Clarkson—who rose to fame after winning "American Idol"—will also return as a coach for the 29th season of "The Voice," expected to air in spring 2026. This edition, themed as a "Battle of Champions," will also include coaches John Legend and Adam Levine.

The news of her return comes shortly after the death of Blackstock, who was 48. He had been undergoing treatment for skin cancer over the past three years. His family, including stepmother Reba McEntire, shared public messages of mourning. Clarkson has not commented publicly on his death. The former couple shared two children together.

Prior to the public news of Blackstock's passing, Clarkson had announced the postponement of her Las Vegas residency dates scheduled for August, citing a private family issue. At the time, she shared, "I usually prefer not to discuss personal matters, but given that their father has been unwell this past year, now more than ever I feel I need to focus on supporting my children."
